Q: Hi, can you confirm that this takes aaa rechargable batteries? do these have to be removed to charge, or can they be charged inside the unit?

Yes the unit comes with an insert which will hold 5 AAA batteries. If rechargeable, the manual does say it is not for use as anything but a charger for the unit battery, so I assume you’d have to charge them separately.

Q: Is it programmed for UK?

Marine VHF is programmed worldwide, so, yes it will work in the UK. The GPS will work, pick up a signal worldwide too. This particular VHF has a DSC function, so will need to be registered to a certain vessel via MMSI.

Q: Will this work without entering a mmsi number

I don’t think it will as when you power the unit up, it’s the first thing it asks for. You may be able to use the emergency channel however but you will need to make sure.
