Good product
Came in on time, well packaged. It works well. There is too long hesitancy when first accessing the drive. But once you start working on it, it's fast. Next day, you start up and it hesitates a good minute before accessing the drive, but then it works like a charm. I can look past the initial hesitancy just wondering why it does it. No problems with startup use, everything went smooth.

Rugged, good performance, runs a bit hot.
I bought his WD drive to replace two failed Seagate external drives, one of which gave me several years of good service, but the other survived just a month or two past its warranty date. So far, I'm very pleased with this drive. The case is very rugged and it has an internal cooling fan with large ventilation slots along the top sides of the case. Despite the fan, though, the temperature is running a bit high (54 C). I noted other similar comments in the reviews before I bought it but those reviewers didn't consider it a problem. All the other attributes are running nominal so the higher temperature does not appear to be a problem on this one either. One thing I really like, compared to the Seagate drives, is the large LED on the front of the WD case which is easy to see. The Seagates had small dim LED lamps on the top rear of the cases which I couldn't see without getting up and leaning over my desk to look practically straight down at them. The WD case also comes with a very stable vertical stand, another plus because one of my old drives just sat on its edge and was very easily knocked over. The cable connector on the WD drive is also much better than my old drives which tended to disconnect at the drop of a hat. The WD also is a 7200 rpm drive, compared to 5400 for my old drives. There have been several complaints about this drive being noisy. I can hear it tapping very faintly once in a great while when it's handling large files, but the bulk of the time it is an extremely quiet drive. Overall, for the price, if it lasts, this seems to be an excellent choice.

Plays PS4 games on PS5
Quick, formatted on my PS5, moved PS4 games from internal storage onto it, plays from there just fine.

Nice drive, surprisingly fast, good price
I had a 2Tb and a 3Tb set of USB 2 drives for backing up my stuff. It took FOREVER to transfer from those to this new drive, but I am so glad I did. Everything is so much faster.I have an internal SATA 2 drive for my Steam, and when I ran CDM I was surprised to see that this USB 3 drive was faster. I recently upgraded from a Core2 Quad system, so I am pleasantly enjoying what a decade has done to improve technology. When I am done sorting down my backup data from my last build, I look forward to using this drive for my ISO and video backups. If you are wanting more storage in an external form, this is a good way to go. fully powered, cooled, and fast. I was looking at the cheaper "P" versions, but I guarantee they perform like crap compared to this. Unless you have some reason for not wanting the physically larger unit, or want a USB powered drive that spins slower? For me, I wanted an external HDD with minimal sacrifices to an internal HDD experience. It may not perform as fast as an internal SATA 3 SSD or HDD, but it did out perform a WD Black 7200RPM SATA 2 internal HDD. That is good enough for what I need from it, more actually. I got this for less than many internal drives of smaller capacities, and it is much faster than a lot of external drives in this storage size (8TB). Even if you are just buying the drive for regular file use, it is going to be a good experience in my opinion. Obviously if you want maximum speeds you want internal drives, but as far as an external drive goes, this is the one you want.

Love the space
Easy to use. 8TB is a great size. Decent value. Using it as storage space for a plex/ jellyfin server. Only thing is when the PC comes back from sleep mode, the drive takes longer to be recognized but it gets there eventually.

Great all around HDD
I ultimately settled on having this as my backup drive. Its capacity was right, and my much smaller but faster solid state drive was more appropriate for my somewhat more meager than average storage needs for games. Being a Mac user, I completely ignored any and all software that came with it, while it was completely reformatted with APFS to work with the proprietary Time Machine backup software. It is working perfectly. Some have noted that this might not be a very fast drive in practice. The reality is that speeds are largely determined by USB version and your system's associated firmware. This drive runs on USB 3.0, or roughly up to 5gb transfer speeds. My SSD, in comparison, runs on 3.1, which is up to 10gb transfer speed (aka double). That technically makes the Black drive the second-fastest drive I ever owned. In practice, though, I don't really notice the difference between 5 and 10gb speeds. It is simply a fast hard drive, no matter how many hairs some might want to split.Others have also noted that it seemed to be a noisy drive. Well, hard disk drives have physical parts that make noise. You have to spend a lot more -- and still get less -- for a silent SSD. When in use, the Black drive might be a touch louder than other's I've owned, but all HDDs I've owned sounded somewhat different. A running AC and computer audio drown the sound out most of the time.Overall, a great all around HDD that also has a lot of aesthetic personality.
