Tiny, but does the job!

I recently bought a Thermarest sleeping pad; it is somewhat self inflating but requires blowing up further for maximum comfort. I spent a minute or two trying to inflate it by blowing into it but decided to buy the recommended air pump. When it arrived I was skeptical such a small, lightweight pump would be effective; but to my surprise it inflated my sleeping pad fully in just a couple of minutes. It also helps in deflation, although I found it was not really necessary as the pad deflated adequately by kneeling on it as I rolled it up. In summary, the pump does its job quickly and quietly and is small and light enough not to cause any issues. Twenty years ago I was happy to blow up my air mattress when camping, now I enjoy the luxury of having a tiny pump fully inflate my Thermarest pad.

Under Powered

Junk. Tried to use this on two different campouts. First time with the batteries that came with it. After 10 minutes the pad had very little air. Second campout i put fresh known good batteries in it, still no joy. It had a good air seal on the thermarest pad, i did not feel any air leaking, etc. Just seems under powered.

It works for inflation.

It works for inflation on the twin valve ThermaRest Mondo King sleeping pad, but it can’t do the deflation do to the MondoKing not have the newer Twist lock valve that can flow air both ways. The MondoKing has two valves ONE in ONE OUT valve, and it has foam padding inside the pad. So it’s not totally comparable with the MondoKing sleep Pad. Beware

Works, just not as fast as advertised

I bought this since it was taking 40 breaths to inflate my Thermorest neoair pad. It certainly does inflate it much easier than manually! What I don't like is that I just have to start it and walk away. 10 minutes later, the pad is as full as it's going to get. Maybe I was just hopeful that it would only take 3 minutes or so. Changing to fresh batteries did not make much of a difference. What I really like is how it deflates the pad. Start it and when I get back to the pad, it's mostly flat. When I roll it up, there is always a little air that I expel just before putting it away. This pump has made putting the pad away very simple. The only addition that I would like to see is the use of a rechargeable battery. Having to carry additional AAA batteries is something I would prefer not to have to do.

Not for older thermorest pads. Also, came broken.

I really wanted this pump, as blowing up my air mattress each night gets annoying. It was delivered quickly. When I put brand new batteries in it, it didn’t turn on. This is a bummer because I really wanted this item for my backpacking gear. It’s incredibly lightweight and small! It also doesn’t fit the older generation sleep pads. My thermo test neoair pad has the older smaller valve and this pump is made for the newer fatter valves.I’m pretty bummed out because it’s really the only choice on the market for its weight and size and it won’t work for me.I returned my tiny little broken pump.

Not what I expected

Purchased this because it is a Therm-a-Rest product for my Therm-A-Rest pad. So, despite the review, I went ahead and got it. Not the best choice I made. It is light weight. But that is about it. I followed the directions on both the pump and the pad. Installed the batteries, opened the valve and set it to inflate, attached the pump the pad, and turned it on. It says it is supposed to inflate this pad within minutes. Ten minutes later (I timed it) the pad was just as limp as before I started. No inflation noted. This my friend is NOT a good sign. I then inflated the pad (without the pump), moved the wing-fixture to deflate, attached the pump in the deflate mode, and over five minutes later the pad was just as inflated as before. Opinion on this? If I were to use this and depend on it working, my pad would not be inflated. And over ten minutes and no inflation, that will not work on a backpacking trip. Fortunately, the pump was still in the return phase so back it went. I will ultimately get a different pump and hopefully this new pump will work. We shall see. My thought? I may have just gotten a bad one. That is possible. But with it not working I certainly cannot use it. If you decide to purchase one, just be aware that it may be fine and work as advertised or you may have poor luck and get one that is questionable. The company makes good products and I'm sure they would have fixed it (possibly at a significant cost) but I choose to send it back.

Works great if you use it properly

I'm an avid backpacker and have had a Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm (old style) and their older inflate-only pump for several years. I wanted to try the new pump, so upgraded to the new pad with wing-valve. I'm very happy with both new items. This pump feels much sturdier than the old one, and is slightly smaller. To get your pad to easily inflate, open the valve and first blow a breath of air in to loosen up the flapper; then the pump works as it should. Be sure to connect the pump properly and make sure there is plenty of open area at the intake end so it can get air (make sure it's not up against the wall of the tent, your gear, ets.). Some reviewers who said it didn't work probably experienced the flapper not being loose enough to allow the pump to work well. On deflate, it works best if you don't pre-deflate the pad, that is, don't open the valve while you're still laying on it. It doesn't take all the air out, it just can't, but it did okay and then just a tight roll up should do the trick. However, I preferred to still deflate the pad manually--just works better for me plus I wanted to preserve battery life on the pump. FYI, even without the pump the wing valve on the new pad is a VAST improvement, makes inflating and deflating much easier.

Don’t Bother for MondoKing

I have a Therm-a-Rest MondoKing and thought this would be great way to speed up the set up and breakdown. With brand new batteries, it’s too weak to help with inflation at all and the deflate side doesn’t fit the out port. It was a total waste of money.
