I was just released from the hospital after an episode of hypoglycemia (blood sugar too low) and learned a lot which I will share here. Glucose meter a sensitive medical instruments and should be respected and used properly. One potential issue is contaminating the strip. So wash your hands thoroughly before taking and inserting the test strip. It is recommended that you use a new needle each time you test. Next thing to know is that dropping a glucometer can throw off its accuracy and calibration. So the Caresens can be rotated 180 degrees and stored with the slot for the strips towards the bottom. This way you can test with the meter still secured in the case and have virtually little or no chance of dropping it. I also recommend if you are in the hospital or your doctor's office and they will test your glucose that you also bring your meter and compare your reading to a known good professionally calibrated meter. You should also use a meter where with available control solutions to also independently verify the readings.NOTE that my last meter did fall a few times and when the hospital glucometer read 120 my glucometer returned 386 - 3 times the accurate reading. So when my blood sugar was actually 50 the meter read 3 to 4 times higher leading me to thinking I was HYPERglycemic (too much sugar) when I was actually HYPOglycemic (too little sugar). This could have been deadly. Please research and understand what I have written. It may save your life. Finally I really like that the CareSens uses Bluetooth to transfer the readings.

I got this when my labs came back high while I was waiting for weeks to hear back from the doctor. It really helped me change my eating habits to bring my glucose way down before the doctor even got back in touch with me. Since I was paying out of pocket at the time this was a much better value than what I could find at the local pharmacy. I eventually got a prescription, and insurance also provided me with a free meter so now I have 3 different meters. My prescription was only going to cover testing once per day so I would have stuck with this since I was testing a lot more than once per day. I like using data to help with decision making, and this let me do that.For the few days I was comparing them (I know you aren't supposed to but I was curious) this one tended to be in the middle. I don't really use this one anymore but keep it as a backup. I use my CGM and the one that insurance provides completely free. They were all within the margin of error though.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the app is a little clunky. It would often take force closing and re-opening the app at the right time to get it to connect and read from the device. I was using a Galaxy S22 Ultra.I did prefer these lancets and lancing device over the "name brand" one from the pharmacy.If I didn't have the CGM or the insurance provided meter with "unlimited" supplies I would still be using this since it would be cheaper than the limited amount of supplies my prescription would have covered.

I was suspicious if this very affordable glucose monitor would do its job and to my surprise, it far exceeds my expectation. Let me get the neg out of the way first. Connecting to its Bluetooth was a nightmare, just wasn't able to connect after 10+ tries. Found a YouTube video that help solve the issue, basically had to go to Bluetooth setting in iPhone and forget the CareSensNPlus (my model) device from My list (from previous failed connections), and then follow instruction to reconnect Bluetooth. After that I was successful in the connection, and thereafter, the Bluetooth has been solid, all measurement automatically uploads to iPhone once you pull out the test strip. I don't have any other monitor to compare but to me everything is solid and very easy to use, and nothing seems flimsy or will break anytime soon. I think its fairly accurate although again i don't have much to compare against, but it seems reasonable from my clinic test result, and has been fairly consistent from all of my testings. I'll likely get another kit to verify. The lancet tool is easy to use, just insert the lanset and twist the top. It has an adjustable needle length which is nice so you don't poke a larger than needed. A really nice touch is that It came with a very nice soft pouch that stores everything you needed on the go. I didn't think this would be useful but if i go to work, i can take it with me without looking for another bag that's not made for it. The pouch just holds everything neatly in place with its elastic straps and zipper pocket

The app adds logs that aren’t mine and I cannot delete them. It has added more logs than I have myself. So im spending time going into each log to deselect “my data” so that it doesn’t count it in my totals, but I shouldn’t have to do any of this. Again, you can’t delete the errant logs. Whose information is this? Why is it doing this?It has 5 log entries and I just tested myself once.

I am prediabetic and have been wearing the over the counter CGM for the past few weeks. At times, its glucose readings seemed high and I wanted a glucose meter to compare readings. I like that the CareSense has an app that logs readings, and find it overall simple to operate. Any issues with pairing the device with my phone were resolved quickly due to the excellent video instructions by the company. I also found that it is very accurate, when comparing it to the readings from the CGM. It is also a great price for the whole kit, and I plan on using it going forward, may even cancel my subscription for the CGM. Overall, a great buy.
