Rotometals Kilo (2.2 pounds) Bismuth Metal 99.99% Premium Grade Great for Crystal Making

Awesome pure bismuth!

We bought this product to do a crystal project and waited eagerly for it, but the FedEx tracking kept saying it was late, and then FedEx ended up back-dating the tracking by a week to say it had been delivered (when it had clearly been lost). After jumping through several hoops to file a claim with FedEx, they called to tell me I had to get refunded from the seller (RotoMetals) and then they'd refund them. "More hoops," I thought, but Rotometals refunded my claim instantly. I re-ordered the product, it arrived in a single day, and we've been having great fun with it ever since -- highly recommend both product and seller.

My Kilo of Bismuth arrived on time and as described by the seller. It weighed just over a Kilo, and came in two large chunks. I've attached pictures for size reference. I don't know how people could possibly complain about purchasing a piece of metal, but some do. It "worked" just fine when I melted it down with both a gas burner (gas grill side burner in a stainless steel bowl), and just fine with a micro hand torch (Newport Micro). I was able to get a few beautiful crystals to form as the metal cooled, but it certainly takes practice and a little research to make sure you're doing it right. I am very satisfied with my purchase, and am excited to use it as a teaching tool for my nephews. Please don't give bad reviews about a chunk of the Earth. It only makes you seem foolish.

Because the material gets rather warm, be sure to treat it like you would, say, a pot of boiling ramen noodles or such. Eye Glasses--any--are well-advised for the extraction phase at the end. Wear shoes, too, as you ought to with boiling water, etc.. Cooling appears to produce better results when gradual. We insulated our old, small pot with a loose wrap of foil and a lid. The surface crust must not get too thick or extraction of the crystals within is not possible. If it does get too thick, just start over. So far, results are excellent. Bought twice, because one wasn’t enough to make nice sized crystals as other reviews have mentioned so definitely buy more.I had no issues with the beautiful colors bismuth crystals come out in until the second batch was added which made all the bismuth crystals come out silver. The crystals did form but I wanted them to be in the cool colors so I’m confused as to why mine didn’t after the second batch. I used all the same things as the first time so nothing changed on my end. This bismuth is great for the prize and creates beautiful colors I would just purchase a bigger amount at the same time so it’s from the same batch unless I just got an oddBatch which is why my crystals came out colorless.

Amazing. This bismuth was so gd bismuthy that the pepto bismol got jealous and up and left my house. It was so pure that, upon opening it grew an orifice to shoot rainbows out of. Although amazed, I was subsequently covered in rainbows for the rest of the day.Jokes aside this bismuth arrived as advertised. No complaints. Bought it to grow crystals with the kids and worked just fine.Pro tip: buy at least ten pounds to grow bigger and better crystals

This metal is pretty good for my casting experiment because I can melt it at home with an old pot I no longer use. It is also easy to break it into pieces and melt it again because it is very soft. I would like to try making some crystal later as well. I bought 6.6 pound for the 9” diameter ring I casted. If you want to make something big, 2.2 pound is definitely not enough.
