Tsar of Science Fiction

Have these stories in my collection of old paperbacks... Well read and thumbed, with brown-edged pages... In lockdown, like many, I am reading more and the to have these stories in one book appealed... Word of warning, even though it is a paperback, it is a little heavy and slightly heavy to hold for extended reading... Great packaging and delivery..... Thanks for taking trouble to read this...

The (almost) Complete Robot short stories!

Excellent Isaac Asimov collection of his Robot short stories written across many decades. There are a couple of stories that he wrote subsequently that appear in later collections (Gold, Robot Dreams and Robot Visions) which haven't been added to this, presumably because of rights issues. This book supersedes I, Robot and The Rest of the Robots, adding a few more stories and dropping the 'fix up novel' links from I, Robot, where 'Robot Psychologist' Susan Calvin introduced the various stories. If you're starting out with Asimov's broader Robot/Empire/Foundation saga, I recommend reading this after the first two novels: The Caves of Steel and The Naked Sun. This collection includes an Elijah Bailey/Daneel Olivaw short story set after the latter novel and before The Robots of Dawn. The beauty of Asimov's writing is its simplicity. Science fiction tends to be extremely complex these days, with some stunning writing, but Asimov gives us easy reads with characters painted in broad strokes, while concentrating on plot. He presents complex ideas so simply that you often absorb them without questioning them. This is the second time I've bought the book, having previously owned it in the 1980s. The stories are good enough that, now in my 40s, I can still remember plots and characters in stories here that I read in my early teens. Highly recommended.

Robotic heaven.

No better way to involve yourself in the world of Asimov than by beginning here.Forget the novel length stories, they're good, but the short fiction is more direct, succint. And please forget any preconceptions based on the lousy Will Smith movie, remote from the original vision. These ae entertaining, thought provoking, and sometimes moving stories of A I ,often proving itself to be far more than the sum of its positrons. No SF buff can consider themselves as such without this under their anti grav belt.

Mostly duplicates

If you're buying the set of six robot books then there's a fair amount of overlap / duplicates with I, Robot and The Rest of the Robots. I fell for the frequently bought together aspect and because they're by the same publisher. Going to return this, up to you, will add photos of the ToCs.

A wonderful selection of robot short stories.

This book contains a collection of robot stories by renowned author Issac Asimov. Although written decades ago, the stories are still thrilling and insightful, some of the themes are relevant to current day robots. A great read and enjoyed most of the stories, especially the first half of the short stories. There are no large battles or complicated settings, just wonderful short stories of the many kinds of robots suited for many purposes and interacting with a range of humans, from engineers to small children. The only let down for me was the character of Dr Susan Calvin, I just couldn't stand her cold personality and I found some of her robot loving logic was too flawed, which ruined a few of the short stories for me. But that is just my opinion, I know many people love her character and it definitely doesn't ruin the high quality of the compilation.
