Fun and natural alternative to traditional food coloring
This is a fun and all natural way to add really vivid purple to your culinary creations.I consider it fun because the powdered form can be used in almost anything.Personally, I used it most in baking. You can make some bright reddish purple batters and doughs really easily with this stuff. Moreover, a little bit of the dye goes a long way, so you don't have to worry too much about throwing your recipe off kilter with the addition of the powdered coloring. While the product itself has a slight smell and taste as a straight powder, based on my experience, those basically disappear when you add them to most things.I supposed if you added a whole lot of this product to something like a smoothie, you might notice it more.On the other hand, this is intended as a food coloring, not a nutritional supplement, so I don't think that would be an issue for most people.Personally, I really enjoy having this as a natural alternative to liquid and gel food colorings that are made with chemicals.I especially liked adding it to cake batter to make a red velvet style cake, even though it was a little more purple than red, because you get the vibrant contrast with white frosting without dumping a big bottle of artificial coloring into your recipe. You can also make some crazy looking pies by folding some of this powder into a portion or all of your dough.I suppose you could also add this to things like smoothies or yogurt; however, since it is pretty much nutritionally neutral, I'm not sure that it would have the same appeal as a plant derived powders that add both color AND vitamins, of which there are many.In the end, if you are a baker, professional or amateur, who likes to experiment, I would definitely recommend this because I believe you would have a lot of fun playing with it.If you are someone who likes to have kids help out in the kitchen or even one who want to teach them about the science of plants, colors, Ph levels, etc... investing in a bag of this would definitely be worth you while.

Great job at adding color, but it's definitely stinky cabbage
This powder must be highly concentrated red cabbage. A little goes a pretty long way, and it can be used in any number of things for natural coloring, such as frostings, cake batters, or even meat marinades (it'll definitely add color to poultry or fish and even brings some drama to burgers). Now, the downside is this: the diplomatic way to say it is that it smells a little funky. The less diplomatic way is to say it smells kind of like a fart. A little of this powder can be disguised pretty well without majorly impacting the flavor of the dish you're using, but the more you add, the more funk you add to the flavor as well. I guess it's a sacrifice that one might have to make for the sake of a very natural way to add color. It's also on the pricier side at close to $20 at present, but it comes with a good amount and seems to be something that will be shelf stable for some time.***I write reviews as a hobby because I love trying out electronics, clothing, household products, kitchen devices, and more. Awesome colors, turns purple for corned beef brining so far ;)
This Suncore Foods – Premium Cosmos Red Cabbage Powder has really stupendously rich color, and it changes according to the PH of what you have it in. When I mixed it with reverse osmosis water, it was a beautiful purple-y red. When I mixed it with a bit of just-made corned beef brine, it turned purple. When I rinsed the bowl down with our very alkaline well water – so there was very little powder in the bowl, the water turned blue.I make homemade ferments and brines, including corned beef. However, I grew up with processed corned beef that has touches of color. Homemade corned beef turns out pretty gray. For years I have added red sauerkraut juice, the juice from canned beets, red beet powder, etc., to add the familiar red tint to my corned beef. I thought I’d try this red cabbage powder. That might be an “oops!” 😉This powder was a really easy way to do that, and I was hoping that the fermenting brine would turn more acidic and cause the liquid mixed with this powder this to change to a redder red. I’m only two days in, but the brine has only gotten more purple and my corned beef is a beautiful deep purple. We will see if it changes color at all. 😉 Too fun!I received this powder in March of 2021 and the expiration date was March of 2023. Lots of freshness locked in there, although I’ll probably store this in a canning jar.Very pleased with this red cabbage powder and the deep pure colors that it produces. As the parent of kiddos with autism, there are causes near and dear to my heart.
