Better IR Transmitter
I purchased the new $30 “SSE” Remote from Amazon and I can confirm several things with how it operates with my 2018 version of the 9.2 Shockwafe, which came with the “DTS:X” remote. When I asked Ray from Nakamichi if there were any changes to the new remote other than the slightly revised button labels. He said “The SSE remote is made in a different factory.”1. I can comfirm the “DTS:X” and “SSE” remotes are 99% identical under up close inspection — except for two improvements.2. The IR infrared transmitter is much better on the new remote. I can successfully transmit button presses to the soundbar at a wider range pointing higher and lower, left and right! If you look at the clear bubble at the end (the transmitter), the new one has the silver emitter inside positioned closer to the end of the clear tip. So its signal has a wider broadcast spread. This is huge for anyone who has been frustrated by the more narrow cone of the original DTS:X remote.3. The backlighting behind the clear buttons on the remote is noticably better on the new remote. The LED lights are brighter and the buttons are more uniformly illuminated. So 2017 and 2018 Shockwafe owners should consider spending the $30 for the new remote if you have been frustrated by the narrow range of transmitting. I also just like having an extra remote to give someone else in the room so they can have volume, bass or other controls.

Awesome replacement.
I’ve owned the 7.1.2 Shockwafe for 3 years and love it. Remote got damaged and with the amount of settings you can adjust I had to get a factory replacement. Took a little long to ship than previously stated but worth it.

Works Better
I've been using this SSE remote for a few weeks now with my 2018 7.1 DTS:X and 9.2 DTS:X Shockwafe. I can say although It appears somewhat the same as the 2018 remote, functional wise it's a huge improvement .... plus the fact (I'm a little picky) this SSE remote brings me in line with the newer 2019 SSE Shockwafe model Sound bar .... only difference being the Remote.

Defective
The one that came with my soundbar became defective after about a year, buttons became unresponsive. Now the replacement I ordered has an unresponsive “bass down” button after only a month and it could’ve been defective the entire time without me knowing. Sadly you should probably check that ALL the buttons work when you first receive the remote.

It just works!
Improvements such as a lighted keypad and enhanced connectivity/interoperability with ALL of my devices which means being able to control the audio system with the same remote as is used for my tv, streaming device, and TURNTABLE (yeah I listen to vinyl too!). One remote makes it much easier than using a gazillion remotes that get lost the moment I need them (maybe some crazy black hole quantum mojo stuff happening). Soooo... it just works! Nuff said.
