Q: Is a load applied during testing?

I opened the tester (2 screws) and found a small circuit board which had wires leading to the +/- terminals. So yes, the tester applies a 4-ohm load when testing 1.5V batteries, or a 215-ohm load when testing a 9V battery. You can verify this by measuring the resistance between the tester terminals with a multimeter switched to the ohms function.

Q: Is this able to test capacity of li ion batteries?

Save your $$ It doesn't work with button or even C and D batteries!

Q: will this check lithium batteries?

Yes. Lithium 1.5V size AAA, AA, C, or D batteries. Common household batteries as stated in the description. Buy a multimeter for all other voltages or sizes.

Q: How do you test button batteries? Can’t get a reading on any of them. Is there a special angle?

you need a volt meter with 2 probes. probably not worth the effort for a button battery
