Thinner than expected and darker blue; some assembly tips
I was looking for a heavy-duty shelfing unit that could handle the weight of books and boxes of magazines. From the reviews, this one sounded sturdy. Also, it came in a lovely royal blue, based on the photos. The color is actually a dark navy. I took a photo outdoors with a Chewy box for comparison. In flash photos, it looks much bluer. In indoor light, it looks dark navy, almost black. The shelves are 31” x 16.5,” not 32” x 17.” It was probably built with metrics, so it’s “close” but not quite. It is 72” high. The parts were well packaged and arrived safely. Tough rubberish protectors had kept the ends from getting dinged and there was that thin Styrofoam wrap around the connecting bars. Nothing was bent or missing. First, I laid out all the pieces and took inventory. Make sure you take everything out and lay it out because the gloves, hammer, and feet are packed between the shelves. For reference, I am a small, older female. I enjoy assembling things and feel comfortable with tools but am not good with strength. One person can do this alone, but when you build the base, it’s a little wobbly until you get all four sides connected, and I was holding up one side with my body while I got the other side sorted out. From the illustration, I was confused about which direction to put the bars, but I realized the shelf needs a platform to sit on. Think about building a platform for the shelf and then it makes sense. The holes will be on top. When you put the vertical bars up, make sure the keyhole (or lightbulb, or pear) shape has the smaller part at the bottom. However, when you put the “feet” on the top vertical bars, remember they’ll go on the large side of the keyhole shape (unlike the feet on the bottom on the unit). The instruction booklet calls them “rubber feet,” but they are just plastic and do not want to stay on. They kept flying off even when I pounded them with the mallet. Be careful about the buttons. Each bar has two buttons on each side. The side bars were fine, but the longer cross bars kept popping out on one side. I’d get all four buttons lined up, but when I pounded down the left side, the right side would pop out. Use your fingers (if you’re like me and your eyes don’t work so well) to make sure all four buttons are out when you press down to put the bar in place. I used my hands to press down first and then started hitting it with the mallet. At first, I was afraid to hit very hard in case I bent the metal. Like I said, I’m an older woman and not super strong, so I wasn’t hitting hard enough at first. You don’t want to see any daylight through the bottom of the keyhole shape. [In my picture, the buttons are not down far enough. More mallet was needed.] Of course, go around all sides a couple times because pounding on the one side will make it start to lift up on the other. I spent almost an hour and a half putting it together, but I was using a level, taking measurements, and using the mallet less aggressively than I could have.I recommend having a step stool, a yardstick, and a level (if you have one). To pound the upper vertical legs in, I had to stand on a step tool to get above them. I am 5’2.” Make sure the vertical posts are in the folded grooves of the connectors and pound them all the way down. I tested the bottom shelf and first shelf with my level before I continued. The instruction booklet calls the shelves “metal board.” It comes with sixteen plastic feet in case you want to make two separate units I guess. Remember there are only 5 shelves, so you can’t make two identical units. It says to wear gloves, but I didn’t so that I could feel the little buttons. Afterwards, I wished I’d worn the gloves. The unit has a very “Prop 65” smell. That’s a California thing that warns you of dangerous materials known to cause cancer and birth defects. When you go in a “dollar store” in California, warning labels are on half the merchandise!Would I buy another one? No. Mostly because I’m disappointed in the color, and I don’t like that Made in China odor, and that clanging sound is still ringing in my ears. I tested boxes of books (40 to 50 pounds) on each shelf (not the top shelf!) It seems solid enough. I didn’t test my own weight. The listing says each shelf can hold 338 lbs. I would not try stacking bags of Quikrete concrete mix on it, no way. I don’t want to try testing it to see where it bends. I just hope it can hold heavy books without sagging over time. At the moment I have 160 pounds of books in boxes on the bottom shelf, and it seems fine. I took some photos in case they might be helpful to anyone. Thanks for reading.

Really nice shelves
I Purchased these shelves for my husband‘s garage. He always seem to not have enough room to put things stacking them on the floor. He now has five of these shelves that I’ve purchased and I like the idea that the garage is nice and neat and tidy now. They were easy to put together. It says 10 minutes, but it actually takes about 30 minutes to put each shelving in unit together. I highly recommend anyone to get these shelves they are metal. They have a nice coating on them so they shouldn’t be easy to rust. The shelves are easily moved into different positions, holding different size storage bins.

Pictures in instructions aren't very clear.
This said it would take something like 15 min to assemble. It would have if the pictures or directions made it clear which was the top or bottom of the shelf. They had pictures, but they were not easy to decode. From previous experience with the old "erector set" type shelves with nuts & bolts, I thought that the open part of the shelf long pieces and short pieces should face down.... That was wrong. Luckily, we decided to test this by putting in a shelf before we went any further. They went right though the hole. So, we took everything off and did it again. The long and short pieces should face into the middle of the frame like a little ledge, rather than hooking on over the supports. It will be better if you have 2 people to do this. It's kind of hard to hold everything together on the frame without it shifting and falling out on the opposite corner. We put the bottom two shelves in immediately and then the frame was more stable. I would buy it again, but I wish the directions showed a view looking down from the top.... or said you would have a little ledge inside the frame that would hold the shelves. The only complaint (besides the directions) is that the plastic caps for the top and bottom keep popping off while you build the thing until it gets stabilized by the shelves. One of them also popped off when we moved it. I completely gave up with the rubber caps on the top.

Exactly what we needed
Got these shelves to replace others that had collapsed in the garage. These were easy to assemble but took 2 people for the first shelf to keep the structure in line - after the first one was in the rest were easy. It appears to be very sturdy but we are attaching to the garage wall to avoid any accidents!
