Outright Amazing. You will not regret buying it.
I have been building circuits and soldering as a hobby for almost 25 years now. Put the hobby in the back burner for the past couple of years until this lockdown that has forced me start getting creative again. Tinkered around with cheap makeovers ($10-$20) and always ending up getting super frustrated with their lack of quality and precision of getting the job done. Decided to explore buying a Weller vs Hakko. Quality wise they are both good but I liked Weller because of the solid build quality, the precise temperature control on the LCD (can see both the actual and set temp), ability to switch seamlessly between farheneiht and celsius and fast response times. I have read feedback on Hakko reaching the temperature faster but honestly my Weller was equally fast especially on startup. Additional tips are cost effective too. Contrary to what the guy on the EEvblog says I prefer the open spring holder because it dissipates heat in the environment faster and likely saves tip life. I have already used this for couple of projects and oh my ..... It has left me thinking about what have I been missing !!!! This thing is an absolute charm. Precise temperature control allows you to work with lead vs. leadless solders, SMD components, variety of PCBs (glass-epoxy vs composites). The pencil is very light weight and ergonomic to use over extended periods without tiring out . Has a customizable sleep mode timer.Made in Mexico and Designed and Engineered in Germany speaks for its quality. If you do some serious amount of electronic tinkering then you will not regret buying it.Make sure that you use a good Rosin flux (recommend MG Chemicals liquid or paste) and good quality solder wire. Also when keeping the iron on standby or in storage do not forget to tin the tip. This will make your tip last forever. Two places where this product can improve:1. Observed that it takes some small time to come out of sleep mode. Unsure if this is by design but initially I thought that the iron was not detecting my motion2. The LCD display is large and fantastic except that it lacks backlit display.Somethings Weller needs to look into improving.

Worth the Extra Money
Great product. I got the basic version and it doesn't disappoint. Solid construction and seems like it'll last a long time. Quick heat and comfortable handle.Recently started spending a lot of time getting back into circuit board builds and works great. It only comes with one tip so plan on buying the $18 5 pack of tips too if you need the precision point.Replaced a highly rated Yihua with this and very happy I did. That got the job done but the plastic sleeve had weak threads and the heat didn't always seem to be up to temp.

Great soldering station.
Wow, this is so much better than my old station. This works very well. Sometimes the auto power down feature is annoying, but I'm getting used to it. Tips are very easy to change and the temperature control is very nice.

A Quality Purchase
I just received my Weller WE1010. I spent at least an hour looking at and comparing all of the soldering irons on Amazon. I had at least 5 in my cart (for a final comparison). I currently have another well know brand of soldering station that I bought used a long time ago, so I understand that a quality iron can make a difference. For me, I want to be able to go from point to point, without having to slow down and wait for my iron to re-heat to the solder's melting temp. Even if it takes 5-10 seconds, it is too long. At this point in my life, I don't want to stress over the potential of product failures, warranty service or returns. For some things, paying more for better engineering, design and quality manufacturing is worth it. This product has all that I need in a compact package. The slim and lightweight handle is one of the nicest features. The fact that it takes fairly standard and inexpensive tips is also key. It costs about 2X a similarly featured soldering station, but by my calculations, over the product's 20 year life, that's an extra $3/year. Worth every penny!!!

Very happy with it.
I bought his to replace my ancient Weller WTCPS soldering station and I don't know why I didn't do this years ago. Fast heating and recovery when used. Easy tip swapping / replacement. Nice feature set with the programmable standby timer. The instruction book is amusing, it's like one of those Ikea picture instruction manuals in many languages I've never even heard of before. It's certainly more expensive than many of the other ones I saw but I'm pretty certain at 68 yrs old it's the last one I'll ever buy.
