Best price, sturdy plastic, good for kids
This item is the best value for a single-piece stencil with all of the basic shapes, labelled, in a size that works perfectly for kids drawing in notebooks. It's only real competitor, similarly sized with just the basic shapes, is also a decent value, though it's made of thin stainless steel, by maker Aleks Melnyk for $7.15. The stainless stencil is classy and I love it, but it's too thin, IMHO, for easy use by the 3 to 5-year-olds. Most of the other inexpensive stencil products for kids have way too many pieces or are too big to use within a notebook.I really like this item because the basic shapes are labelled on stiff, sturdy see-through plastic ~ perfect for kids coloring time. Being a smaller stencil , it's easier for the kids to use within the 5.5" x 8.5" notebooks they color in.It's basically stiff plastic that might flex just a little bit if you tried; I certainly would not call this "flimsy" as a lone reviewer said, although most other cheap stencils for kids are definitely a very thin plastic that flexes greatly, which I think would be harder for younger kids to use.The CLEAR plastic is ideal! Kids can see the drawing underneath as they're positioning the stencil. The 3 year old (contrarian) who's still working on holding a pencil right, It was very proud to point out how he used this stencil correctly for the first time. The other kids, 4-7, certainly have no trouble using it, and like it.
