Q: Do I need to buy tools for my own morse code key?

The perfect product, the package has a 3.5mm Stereo Cable, 5.5mm Wrench 1.5mm Hex Key, so you can easily operate.

Q: What took is required to adjust paddle spacing ?

Simple CW keyer. There are 2 set screws that are locked into place with a locking nut. Simply loosen the locking nut and adjust to your liking. Tighten the locking nut when done. Repeat for other lever.

Q: Are there supposed to be pads for the magnets to prevent scratching of the surface it's used on? None in my package.

No pads were included with my key. I don't think that any were supposed to be in the box. You might try small pieces of laminating material or transparent gorilla tape on the magnets to prevent scratching.

Q: Please don't tell me a lambic key repeats dits and dashes. an iambic key does that. i think the product description is wrong.

This key doesn’t repeat dits and dahs, however the transceiver will if set to iambic mode and either paddle is held down.
