A neat appearance and ok sound
When I first played a CD on it I thought it sounded a bit tinny. It was sitting on the kitchen wooden worktop. I then moved it to a different surface and it sounded much better. It is what I expected for the money and plays my CDs without a problem. I do have a little difficulty recognising the buttons and reading the display but I am 67 and my eyesight is not the greatest. With glasses on and a good light it is all ok. Would recommend this set as it is inexpensive, looks neat and does a good job.

Compact - with great sound
This was bought to play CDs to help my son with revision., audio books & language CDs etc Works perfectly - is very compact - never in the way. All the controls are intuitive - so no reading the manual. The build quality looks fine - and it is Philips brand. For under £35 this is definitely the one to have. Sound quality is fine - and have not needed to have the volume anywhere near its limit.

OK, but seems to pick up limited radio stations
I needed a small radio / CD player for my kitchen, and having had many Philips items in the past, decided on this one. It's small and neat. The sound quality is ok (I wasn't expecting 5.1 digital from a small unit!).The controls take a bit of getting used to, they're not intuitive, so I often find myself hitting the wrong button. The radio station presets are a bit "clunky", as they always go back to P01 when changing stations, regardless of the current station being listened to.I found that the radio isn't picking up all the stations I'd like - there are a few that I can get on my small bedside clock radio that I can't get on this item. For me, that's why it gets 4* and not 5*.

A bad choice for older short sighted people
Compact, easily portable. Radio sound OK as is Cd sound if you don't expect too much.I HATE operating this equipment. Control knobs are MINUTE and in poor light you may need a magnifying glass to decipher. Without the aid of a younger neighbour, I don't think I would have wanted to keep this. Admittedly I enjoy listening to my cds on it BUT am flummoxed again by control knobs. LH "ON" button actually both switches on and starts playing the cd in one go. Perhaps though this is a fault in the mechanism on my machine. Sometimes I have to press the "ON" button 3 or 4 times to get the cd to play. The display screen is miniscule and again, you need good eyesight to see what is happening, the internal light not being bright enough.I've had major problems getting cd to start first time. Could that be something wrong just with my player? The instruction leaflet is completely inadequate - AGAIN SMALL PRINT. You're advised to try Philips website, but when I did, the code no. on the player wasn't recognised. To sum up, this player/radio has caused me hours of frustration. But, being happy with the sound quality, I am keeping it and hope no further problems arise...

PLEASE READ. PLEASE DO NOT BUY.
This piece of trash arrived today, with no postage packaging. It literally arrived in the box that it comes in. So now I have to either return it as it is, or buy a big cardboard box.As I pulled it out of the packaging, I noticed it was incredibly light... like almost weightless. I took this as a sign of poor quality. I don't know why? I just assumed that if it was heavier, then it would have been better?Anyway...I put the cd in and turned it on. As soon as I placed it down, the power cable fell out. The slightest bump makes the cable fall out...I reattached it and turned on the power. The little screen doesn't light up, so I had to get really close to read what it says. It said R.E.A.D. So I guess it was reading the disc. I waited... and waited... and waited... and waited. After about 1 minute of disc reading, the song started. I turned the volume up to max and sat back, as I slightly bumped the CD player... the power lead fell out.I re did the whole process again, including the extra long process of the disc reading. The song began to play, I had to turn it back up again as when the power is off, it doesn't stay at the volume left it or start the disc where it left off.So the first song played then ended.I waited and waited and the second track didn't start?I tried looking across the room to see if the display had anything written on it. But because there's no display light, I had to get up and go over to the CD player. It simply read 000:000.I tried pressing play... fast forward... play... rewind... stop...nothing worked. I turned it off and on and the 000:000 was still on the screen?I checked the instruction Manuel to see if I had to set something up the first time I turned it on or something, I immediately threw the instructions on the ground when I saw that it told me the REP button plays the track over and over... I threw the instructions down, because there is no REP button on this CD player, so straight away, even the instructions were rubbish. It's also supposed to be a radio... but there's no knob for tuning the stations??? And the only buttons are for the cd?What a piece of crap!!!So now I've gotta send this turd back, but like I said... it didn't arrive in a cardboard packaging box! Just the actual packaging that you'd see on the shelf in store. What a massive piece of crap!!!

A great music player
I bought this to replace the one I loaned my husband which he returned covered in plaster and paint where he had used it at work. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend buying it. Easy to use, very portable and good quality sound. I love it.
