99% Copper Sulfate. What’s not to like? Important Info Below🌟

Husband was stoked that I found this on Amazon because he has been having trouble with tree roots growing in the sewer line blocking it up.It’s important to read the info on the photos above to see if this product will work for you. For example, this product is not allowed for use in Florida - I’m betting because of the amount of rainfall and it can leach into their aquifer. There are many articles listing the efficacy of Copper Sulfate for this issue in sewers and septic tanks. I especially appreciated this information on the web from the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, “If flow through the sewer has stopped, call a plumber. If it’s just sluggish, you can restore the flow and prevent future stoppage by using copper sulfate.” Here are other important points made in the article:1. “Copper sulfate will kill not only roots growing in the sewer line but also the organisms which produce offensive odors.”2. Copper sulfate has been added to septic tanks in tests without harming the bacterial action in the tanks.3.“Copper sulfate will require several days to several weeks to work, although spectacular results are sometimes obtained when a rapid breakdown of the organisms within the root mass is achieved and flow is quickly restored.”4. Copper Sulfate does not kill trees or shrubs when it is used in a septic tank or sewer. system. “Apparently the absorbative function of the roots is destroyed before toxic copper travels very far. This results in only local killing action. There is no leaf discoloration when used as directed.”5. Two (2) pounds of copper sulfate is recommended for a three-hundred (300) gallon tank. This can be re- peated at least twice a year, if necessary.6. Instructions: “ Pour copper sulfate crystals of medium size into the commode or toilet stool in small amounts, about 1/2 cup at a time, followed by successive flushing of water until the crystals are carried outside the dwelling into the sewer line. Under NO circumstances should copper sulfate crystals be placed in sink or tub traps where they will erode the light-weight metal pipes and cause leaks. It would be wise to leave the house for the day after treatment (because of smell).6. Much smaller amounts of copper sulfate could be used two or three times a year to prevent stoppage where root invasion problems are frequent.7. Avoid contaminating drinking water of animals, especially sheep, with copper sulfate.More detailed info for the detail minded:1. “A better treatment of the lateral lines can be accomplished if copper sulfate is added to the distribution box where the lateral lines are connected to the septic tank. Some systems do not have this facility.”2. “To be most effective, copper sulfate should be added to the sewer at the first indication of root entrance into the system whether your house plumbing is connected to a sewer line or a septic tank. A small amount added each day for a two-week period would probably be more effective than a large amount all at once.“

Great root killer, easy to use and inexpensive

This is the 2nd best overall "root killer' I've found, but the easiest to use and costs less than many others. We have issues with scrub oak & pine tree roots getting into our ~75-year-old clay pipe drain line(s) going to our septic tank. We have the system scoped every few years and the sewer lines themselves are fine. But the roots sneak in at the joints so we use a root killer at least once a year. While ROOTX has worked the 'best' of the various brands we've tried, it can be a real problem to use because of the terrific foaming action. (Which is part of what makes it work so well) Adois kills the roots just as well but doesn't 'reach up' to the top of the pipe so it only kills the roots that actually touch the 'water'.Adios is the easiest to use and kills the roots as well as any of the others, except the roots invading the drainpipe from the top. We've scoped the sewer lines from the main house, guest house and shop/storage building both before and after using several different root killers. Because of the great foaming action of ROOTX, it kills all the roots the 'best' even those coming in from the top but can be an issue to use if you're not prepared. ROOTX foams so much, so fast it fills the pipe/sewer line quickly which coats all the roots and kills them but can also foam back out the cleanout opening. I do not recommend using it from inside, pouring it into a toilet. We've taken to using Adios a couple times a year from Spring through Fall and starting off the year using ROOTX in the Spring when the trees & brush start growing. Good product at a great price.
